The Rohner Marina Building by Baumschlager & Eberle is fascinating with its seemingly floating configuration of concrete and glass. The clear-cut building volume which houses the harbour office touches the ground as little as structural stability allows, i.e. with a slender "foot." This supports an almost twenty metres long slender cube that cantilevers ten metres to the north. Concrete on the outside and smooth larch wood inside the spatial enclosure form a striking contrast, interrupted by loggia-like openings at both ends which afford views of the surroundings and the lake. Embedded as it is in the conservation area of the Rhine delta at Lake Constance, this "flying space capsule" stands out with its light-weight and light-filled structure, clear lines and uncompromising simplicity.
This monographic publication continues the Werkdokumente series. It contains texts by Andres Lepik and Armin Turnher, a photographic essay by Eduard Hueber as well as plans by the architects.
