| Realistic yet mysterious: Christoph Worringer’s world of images

Christoph Worringer (*1976 in Krefeld) is certainly one of the most exciting and impressive artists in new German figurative painting. He culls from the treasure trove of culture, art, history, religion, mythology, and literature to create an unfathomable iconography of his own, condensing it into a pictorial world that is as realistic as it is unreal and disturbing. Figures stop in mid-motion, as if they have been frozen. Crowded together, they fill up the surface of the painting, surrounded by tangible objects and crystal-clear, depthless space. Despite the proximity of people and things, they nevertheless remain strangers to each other. No symbolic meaning liberates them from their cold isolation. This publication is the first to trace Worringer’s artistic development based on his paintings and drawings from 2003 to the present. Exhibition schedule: LWL Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte, Münster, March 7–May 30, 2010
