| Crossing the Border between Light and Space

With her authentic Light Art, Brigitte Kowanz (*1957 in Vienna) is one of the most prominent artists in this field worldwide. Since the early 1980s she has been working with the medium of light as an independent phenomenon that not only illuminates, but also, like language and writing, bears information and generates meaning. Light forms shapes, perspectives, and words that become space and spread out into the surrounding environment to redefine it. The resulting interplay between material and immaterial light challenges not only vision, but also the viewer’s cognition, in order to draw boundaries between these two poles, which seem to blend into each other. The catalogue captures the magic and impact of the works that the artist has made especially for the Austrian Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennial, while allowing readers to relive the fascinating perspectives of the installations.Exhibition: Biennale di Venezia, Austrian pavilion 13.5.–26.11.2017PETER WEIBEL (* 1944, Odessa) is an internationally known media and conceptual artist, curator, and art and media theoretician.
