“Labor/Laboratory” is the conceptual frame of this year’s ars viva prize, in the area of the visual arts, which is awarded by the Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft. The recipients are Swedish artist Nina Canell (*1979); Klara Hobza, an artist who was born in 1975 in former Czechoslovakia but grew up in Germany; German artist Markus Zimmermann (*1978); and Swiss artist Andreas Zybach (*1975). In ways that are as poetic as they are humorous, daring, and process-oriented, these artists have devoted themselves to examining sensory perception and the human drive to explore the world around us.This catalogue introduces the work of these four young artists. It is published in conjunction with the series of exhibitions at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, the Platform Garanti in Istanbul, and the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Exhibition schedule: Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, October 17, 2010–January 30, 2011 | Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul, spring 2011 | Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, June 18–October 23, 2011
